a gender bender happening
Last Friday, International House had a "Gender-Bender" party. As the name implies, the girls dressed as guys and the guys dressed as girls. It was also a lot more interesting to see the guys dressed as girls than it was to see the girls dressed as guys. Because honestly, girls wear pants all the time. Guys don't normally put on a dress.
Me and a couple of my friends dressed up as the T-birds from Grease. (See above picture) Yeah. As you can tell, we were pretty awesome. In the picture is Chloe, Emma, Jess, Me, Lindsay, and then some other girls I didn't really know, but were friends with Lindsay.
My friends Josh and Dan dressed up as girls (as per the gender-bender rules). Although we didn't plan it this way, they ended up wearing pink dresses, so therefore, they were the Pink Ladies, also from Grease. They made some pretty convincing ladies too:
See? Look how pretty they are... Although it would have been more convincing if Josh had shaved his scruff off... Most girls don't have semi beards/scruff on their faces..
Dan is the one holding the glass, Josh is the one with the scruff on his face.
It was a pretty fun night.. The whole of International House squeezed onto two buses that dropped us off right out side of the pub where the Gender Bender was held. (It was held at the Royal, which is a pretty good pub.) It was so much fun walking up there. We had some French Maids, and some Sexy Nurses... Some of the guys went ALL out for this party. Some just borrowed clothes from roommates. My friend Liam (the one who drove me and Bex on the road trip) bought a black dress from the Op-Shop (basically a Goodwill) and wore a bright blond wig.
To the left here is Liam in his wig (with his purse) and Bex. Bex went as a gangster. One of those old timey 1930's gangsters. Not the ones from the Soprano's. I wanted her to wear a velour tracksuit, but we couldn't find anyone who had one handy, and she didn't want to spend money on it. (I don't blame her.) So she borrowed a hat and was a 1930's gangster person.
I did manage to get a group picture of some of the guys before they were too drunk to stand. Just kidding. They didn't get that drunk. They were all able to safely make it back to bed.
From left to right: Dan, Liam, Tai, Zach, Sean, Henry, Josh
My favorite part about this picture? Josh and Henry's hands.. I love them haha..
Altogether it was a very fun night. We dressed up as the other gender and danced the night away on the dance floor. Seriously. We got to the Royal around 730pm and the bus left to take us about around 1230. So that was a full 5 hours of jumping around and dancing like crazy people. It was actually a lot of fun.
The bar was still open for the locals, but after they saw how many guys were in drag, most of them decided to leave and head out to a different bar for the night. Which was good, because they can be really creepy. Especially when they're old men. As in like.. 60+ years old. It's just weird... Which was why Bex and I (dressed as men) hung out with and therefore protected Josh and Dan from being abducted by the creepy older men. Because, as you can see from the pictures, they made some pretty girls :] haha..
After we got back from the pub, I literally went straight to bed. I was very tired from all the dancing. And then in the morning, we did Campus Scamper. Which was bascially a 3km walk around campus. Or if you were feeling lively (I wasn't) a 5km run around campus. Me and Bex walked. We weren't feeling lively. Besides, who wants to run when you can walk? haha..As you can tell (see above) most of the participants in Campus Scamper walked. Most of them were hungover. I was not one of the hungover ones. In case you were wondering. Don't deny it. I know you were. After the Campus Scamper, International House (the ones in green) gave everyone (from IH) who participated a free breakfast. It was an odd breakfast though. They gave us steak for breakfast.. But yes.. That is just one more adventure in the adventure filled life of Australia :]
This is me and Emma. We're being thug. Or, we're attempting to be thug.. it's kinda hard to be thug when the "girls" are taller than you... silly girls...
But, aside from the really tall, very hairy girls, it was a thoroughly enjoyable night out :]
